Pawpaw Sphinx with braconid wasp parasites

Dolba hyloeus with Cotesia congregata

Notes:

The Pawpaw Sphinx caterpillars I found on a winterberry plant were infested with braconid wasp cocoons. The first 2 images show the larvae just emerged from inside the caterpillar and are starting to make cocoons. The last photo shows the completed cocoons.

Nature can be cruel, but this is just one of the checks and balances. The poor caterpillar was still motionless in the same place a few days later.
