Thanks Leuba, yes that is very similar indeed! It is very interesting how many South African and Australian species are similar! especially our fynbos! :)

Looks like cutworm (Agrotis sp) - similar to the one in the link

I have seen several of this species over here this season. There are many that look quite similar but have slightly different patterns on wings.
