Hoverfly

Eumerus sp.

Description:

Black fly with light bands on the abdomen. I couldn't get a clear shot of the top of the abdomen so the species is unknown. There are three different species in this genus for the US in which all were introduced from Europe. These are fast, ground flyers so they're hard to get on camera.

Habitat:

Leaf litter in the backyard.
