Kim, sorry but I must disagree.
I believe this is an adult female Carolina Mantis. Some differences that can be seen with this mantis vs a European Mantis are the wings, head shape and thorax shape. The short wings with the small spot are consistent with female Carolina Mantises:

Carolina Mantises have a thinner thorax. They have somewhat "buggy" eyes (they bulge out more). Their abdomens are shorter and wider in the middle than European Mantises.

Stagmomantis carolina is a native species.
