Paropsisterna crocata
A eucalyptus leaf beetle approximately 14mm long. Very even and clean cream coloured face and pronotum; smallish, widely spaced grey multi-faceted eyes; elytra evenly covered with small pits and showing small humps at 'shoulders' and mostly a pale biscuit colour.
Attracted to night lights at the local school which is within dry eucalyptus forests. Evening.
Thanks Stephen Thorpe for ID. Some other images of this show a grey beetle. This one surprised me with it's size. It seemed considerably larger than most common leaf beetles. (D Hobern has the same one at genus level only) http://www.padil.gov.au/pests-and-diseas...
Brilliant thanks Stephen. Martin if another one crashes into my head while concentrating on moths I'll save it for you.
Superb!!! I saw a large cream beetle last year and it flew before I opened my camera. I have not found it in the literature. Sometimes wondered if I had imagined the whole episode. Seeing your spotting assures me that I might still be sane. Just a bit jealous.
