Ruby-throated hummingbird (f)

Archilochus colubris

Description:

One of the few hummingbird species found as far north as New Hampshire. Despite what the name suggests, the females do not have ruby-red, but white throats. The head, back and wings are emerald green with a metallic sheen.

Habitat:

Spotted on the porch at the hummingbird feeder. A migratory species that breeds in North America and winters in central America.

Notes:

One of my absolute favourite species (since I was very young).
