American red squirrel

Tamiasciurus hudsonicus

Description:

A diurnal species that is slightly bigger than a chipmunk but smaller than the more common grey squirrel. The coat on the face, back and head is red while the venter (underbelly) is white. This is a highly territorial species and the ones I've come across will not hesitate to get very close to make a cheeky attempt at grabbing food out of a shopping bag, leftovers from lunch etc.

Habitat:

Spotted in a tree next to the house.
