Yes, they're pretty difficult. I made the error of just focusing on the eyes for the ID instead of verifying specific field marks. Thank you fir pointing out the error. The only metalmark species we get in the Valley, if I'm not mistaken, are the fatal, rounded, red-bordered and the red-bordered pixie. The way I've been taught to differentiate between the rounded , red-bordered and fatal metalmarks is by looking at a metallic band on the edges of the forewing that bulges a bit on the rounded metalmark ( it appears pretty straight on the fatal). In the picture, I'm seeing the metallic band is not bulging on The forewing as it does with the rounded metalmark, suggesting it is a fatal metalmark.

I am not sure if you can get down to species level from these shots. Calephelis are one of the most difficult butterflies to ID. Some of them were only described at the end of the last century (the latest one I remember in 2003). Personally I would leave it as Calephelis. Nemesis might be correct, but how safe is it?

And I may have confused it and thought it was red-bordered I stead of fatal...it has a second silver line which the red-bordered does not have...

As of now I only have this picture on my phone, but I should have others on my work computer.

Yes, I meant to put metalmark, I have no idea how I put pixie. I apologize for that. I did have a picture of a pixie, though, but I accidentally deleted it from my phone :/

Riodinidae/Metalmark, Riodininae, Calephelis sp.. Do you have other pictures of this one? Calephelis is one of the most difficult butterfly to ID. Maybe it is a little bit easier for the ones from Texas.
The Red-bordered Pixie is Melanis pixe from the same family, but looks completely different, maybe you mixed something up.
