Rustgill species

Gymnopilus sp.

Description:

Little orange mushrooms, no bigger than 2-3 cm wide at the cap. Spore print was rusty brown.

Habitat:

Growing out of holes in a standing dead tree and on a fallen dead tree, mostly on the underside. Close to the water, probably in the flood plane.

Notes:

Couldn't tell what kind of tree but I don't think it was a conifer as there weren't any other conifers around. This makes me suspect it might not be a rustgill as they seem to favor conifers but I don't know if they do exclusively. Everything about it suggests a rustgill species.
