Garden Tiger Moth

Description:

A very colourful moth found on dry grass in an alpine meadow. It has a red furry body, brown-and white-patterned forewings, and bright red hindwings with four or five large black spots.

Habitat:

Mountainous Alpine area

Notes:

The garden tiger moth or great tiger moth is a moth of the family Erebidae It prefers cold climates with temperate seasonality, as the larvae overwinter, and preferentially chooses host plants that produce pyrrolizidine alkaloids.
