Barn Owl

Tyto alba alba

Description:

T. alba is a pale, long-winged, long-legged owl with a short squarish tail. Its head and upper body typically vary between a light brown and a light colored and dark grey (especially on the forehead and back) feathers in most subspecies. This owl does not hoot. It instead produces the characteristic "shree" scream.

Habitat:

This is a female called Nyra. She lives in captivity and forms part of a raptor flying show in Belgium.

Notes:

In the town where I live we have barn owls living in the church. Sometimes we heard them in the night but they are small and too fast for a nice picture :-)

Thanks for the nice comments :-)
@Ava: I also wondered if she was an albino. It may be. I did not ask. Otherwise could be a subespecies variant.

Barn owls, such beautiful and strange faces ... I've always thought they look like they're from another planet.
