Skink

Scincella lateralis

Description:

Little Brown Skink

Habitat:

this one was found under a rock in a flower box on our farm.

Notes:

www.herpsoftexas.org Based on the county we live in there are only 3 skinks in our area. This one doesn't match the physical characteristics of 2 (prairie skink or broad-headed) leaving just the little brown skink.

Skinks are lizards, and there are a few small differences. Skinks have more "snakelike" heads and bodies than lizards, and they move in a more serpentine motion.

really?! Ok, how can I tell the difference b/w a skink and a lizard then? there are a ton of them on the property. I wonder what it is that attracts them. Guess I'll be up all night reading about skinks :)
