Plagiometriona clavata
Clavate Tortoise Beetle Plagiometriona clavata he very cute Golden Tortoise Beetle looks like a cross between a turtle and a frog. The adult can quickly change the color of its "carapace" from dull reddish-brown to glorious, glittering gold.
Widely distributed on sweet potato, bindweed and other plants of the morning glory.
I was close though. I couldn't figure out the difference in color, but then it said it changed color so I figured it was the golden one. I am happy you found the correct ID.
Notice the textured appearance of the elytra and the color differences. Still an amazing insect!
