Pacific Golden Plover

Pluvialis fulva

Description:

My all-time favorite migratory bird in Hawaii. They migrate south for the winter to places like Hawaii, California, and Asia. They begin their migration from late July to early August and remain here until sometime in April, when they return to Alaska and Antarctica for breeding.

Habitat:

Fields, beaches, tidal and coastal areas.

Notes:

Known as the "Kolea" in Hawaii.
