Great Blue Heron, Little Blue Heron and American Alligator

Ardea herodias, Egretta caerulea and Alligator mississippiensis

Description:

A Great Blue Heron and a juvenile Little Blue Heron watch as an American Alligator feeds in the shallows.

Habitat:

Circle B Bar Reserve, Lakeland, FL

Notes:

I love it when I can capture more than one species in a single photograph. I was taking a picture of the two species of heron together when I saw the splashing in the water in front of them. I thought it was a duck of some sort until the alligator raised its head completely out of the water. It was feeding on something about the size of a duck as it turns out. Technically, I guess there are four species in the pictures, although I can only identify three of them.
