Eastern River Cooter

Pseudemys concinna

Description:

A large turtle over a foot in length. Fairly flat shell with multiple scutes on its back. A very plain colored cream belly.

Habitat:

Freshwater lake near wetlands.

Notes:

I found this turtle just starting across a dirt road headed for the lake. So, after the indignity of flipping it over on its back for the final photo, I carried it across the road and set it down about two feet from the lake. You've never seen a turtle move faster than this one did to get in the water ;).
