Tobacco Hornworm

Manduca sexta

Description:

Bright green caterpillar about 7 cm long. Diagonal white lines run from the midline. Small black, white, and red spots run the length of both sides of the body. There is a reddish tail like projection on the top of the posterior end. Black round droppings that are about the size of large peppercorns.

Habitat:

Urban garden in morning glory vines.

Notes:

Has a voracious appetite. Devouring large morning glory leaves in minutes.
