White-winged Grosbeak

Mycerobas carnipes

Description:

Relatively large bird. Has black head, neck and entire dorsal portion, with regular white patterns on its wings. The entire ventral portion below neck is yellow. Has thick black beaks and black legs. Length about: 17.00 cm.

Habitat:

Cherry tree surrounded by thick forests.

Notes:

Spotted this bird this morning feeding on old dried cherry. It swallowed the seed after peeling off the exterior dried fruit portion. Behaviour seemed similar to those of parrots, except it did not use its legs for feeding. Never seen this bird before!

Thanks mpvettch for the suggestion. However, Hema'll agree with me this's not a 'Finch'. This's much larger, beaks are stronger, the yellow line's much lower and white stripes on the wings are much clearer. To me this's a 'Grosbeak', but which one!
