A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
A very large spider (three inches) that jumps or hops and I spotted it at first by my garden hose--just outside my garage door. It was a pregnant female and gave birth to a multitude of babies! I placed it into the grass on my lawn...using gloves.
I made a brief IPhone film: http://youtu.be/Pr456LKOcuc
Next time I will place a quarter near my photo to better indicate size.
Musicwolf, I just looked at the photos online and I heartily agree that you are correct in your identification of what I spotted as The Carolina Wolf Spider.
LOL...at first I thought it a Tarantula! It is very memorably big! An impressive species, for sure!
Thank you so very much, Musicwolf, for the ID on this spider!
I am loving this website and cannot wait to submit more sightings! My best to you. :-)
Definitely a wolf spider . . . the one I suggested would be the most common in your area.
