Longfin grouper, aka Longfin rockcod

Epinephelus quoyanus

Description:

Feeds on crustaceans, fishes, and worms. The enlarged fleshy pectoral fins appear to have resulted from its habit of sitting on the substrate.

Habitat:

Coral sea lagoon. Inhabits inshore silty reefs; there are no records from depths greater than 50 m.

Notes:

Very similar to the Honeycomb grouper, E. merra: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/406...
