Gilma, I misspoke about adults not glowing. According to bugguide.net, the adult females DO have bioluminescent organs. I also did a quick search, and apparently you do have some species in Costa Rica, so be on the lookout! Sorry for the misinformation:(

Agree Rob! I was a bit puzzled by its appearance as well. I've found others that were in much better shape, with clean antennae.

Thanks Gilma! The beetle form does not glow, but the larval form does. The larvae are really cool to find on night hikes!
