Eucalyptus leaf axil gall

Cecidomyiidae

Description:

A pretty little 'exploded' gall about 15mm wide. Older ones nearby had shrunk to about half size and gone brown.

Habitat:

On a E microcarpa? branch in a local sports field surrounded by endemic

Notes:

After sectioning one of these and discovering a maggot-like larva it seems this is probably a gall midge (Cecidomyiidae)
