False Coker's Lepidella

Amanita subcokeri

Description:

This large, white mushroom closely resembles Amanita cokeri, but has some key differences. It was very large (15-17cm tall), white, and had both large and small warts on the cap. Pinkish-brown staining on the bulb and peeling scales right above the bulb. White gills. Shaggy stem and a double ring.

Habitat:

Growing on the ground in a mixed forest.

Notes:

Amanita expert Rod Tulloss has provisionally named Amanita subcokeri as a similar species to Amanita cokeri. This mushroom was identified on the Mushroom Observer. This is the second spotting for this species on Project Noah. See the first spotting here: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/206...
