Black Swallowtail Caterpillar

Papilio polyxenes asterius

Description:

Small caterpillar that eats parsley, dill, and the tops of carrots. Is very active and goes through major transformations. 

Habitat:

Is often found near dill and parsley gardens.

Notes:

The caterpillar will grow to be very large, until suddenly it begins to seem smaller again. This does not mean he is dying, but he is about to create his cocoon.
