Description:

Tree-like, with single trunk and spreading branches. Pear-shaped fruits extend in chains, lengthening from year to year. Aggressive barbed spines.

Habitat:

Desert shrub steppe; Sonoran Desert in southern Arizona and northern Mexico.

Notes:

Saguaro National Park (west), Arizona.
