Argynnis paphia
This male of this large fritillary species is unmistakable with its bright orange colour and the presence of 4 distinctive black veins on its forewings that contain special scent scales that are used in courtship.
Edge of woodlands with thistles, alt. 1200 m.
The English name for this butterfly comes from its ventral view, which has a striking silvery sheen when viewed from certain angles.
