Chukar

Alectoris chukar

Description:

Partridge. Very distinctive colouring with black stripes down the sides. Black stripe-like eyebrows extending down the neck.

Habitat:

The extensive grounds of Hemis Monastery in Ladakh, India. Often saw this bird standing on the safety railings of the mountaineous roads as we travelled in the high-altitude Himalayan region. Also foraging along mountain sides.

Notes:

It walks fast before it takes flight....the walking fast means the camera has a tough time focussing.
