Gray Hawk

Buteo plagiatus

Description:

A stout hawk with relatively wide wings with dark wingtips and dark trailing edge. The tail is wedge shaped with black and white bars.

Habitat:

The area is right on the Rio Grande River so there is more vegetation than the surrounding dry area of the Lower Rio Grande Valley area. Seen flying over Mexico.

Notes:

It was so great to see so many different new species of butterflies, dragonflies, and birds.
