California Alligator Lizard

Elgaria multicarinata

Description:

Long-tailed, large scaled lizard. Two were found together on an old log (last picture). The individual on the left had lost part of it's tail in the past and has some regrowth but lacking the original coloring. They were not particularly frightened at having their pictures taken.

Habitat:

On a log above a large hole, with lots of shrubbery. Along the road leading from the dock at Scorpion Cove to the lower campground. Santa Cruz Island, Channel Islands.
