Bighorn sheep

Ovis canadensis

Description:

This was a beautiful specimen of a ram, or male, bighorn sheep.

Habitat:

North America

Notes:

After driving east through Jackson, I entered a dirt and gravel road that led into the National Elk Refuge. A small herd of bighorn sheep was on the lower slopes of Miller's Butte and spent some time crossing the road to the east. The sun was perfect to catch the light on this large ram with my 70-300mm set at 250mm, and he posed momentarily just as if I had him on my payroll!
