Anartia jatrophae
The White Peacock is a striking butterfly that can be common in Central America and the Caribbean. It can also be seen in the south eastern United States and Texas. This is not a west coast butterfly and I had never seen it before, not even in southern Mexico. These were bred for the Butterfly House of the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History in California, and were wonderful to watch up close. The first two pictures are of the male and female. The butterflies were offered an abundance of flowers and running water in small streams and fountains. They were also offered slices of oranges, which were extremely popular with all the species (last picture). Family Nymphalidae.

Thank you Neil. I was fascinated with these as I had never seen them before.
Now they are simply stunning! Beautiful specimens, and excellent photos that capture that beauty. Bravo.
