Gang-gang cockatoo

Callocephalon fimbriatum

Description:

I have never seen this species in Melbourne suburbs before but this family of three of these birds were happily feeding (or indulging in typical cockatoo vandalism) in the top of some thin eucalyptus trees. Two adults and one younger one. Sound first drew my attention as they were making similar sounds to a baby Sulphur crested cockatoo but not nearly as whining.

Habitat:

In a suburban back yard.

Notes:

These were about 20 metres up so very much on the limits of my pocket cam. Still funny to watch.
family: CACATUIDAE
subfamily: Cacatuinae
tribe: Cacatuini
