Dalea feayi
About 12" tall. Flower lilac-purple, reminded me of a sort of clover (!); round, perhaps 3/4" - 1" diameter. Cropped and zoomed in for the leaves; not sure how to describe them.
Along the shoulder of the road, scrubby oak area. In association with british soldier lichen, earth stars, Grass-leaved Asters, Long-spurred Mint.
This little stretch of road is not even a block long, but it's scrubby, and therefore PACKED full of really really neat things! You can be sure I'll be back for a third visit. The neighbors will think I'm up to something weird....this blonde chick with a camera wandering around the "weeds".... LOL I've read that this species is very choosy about its soil.. Prefers basically pure beach (therefore scrub) sand. Wondering if turkey-oak Sandhill would work. I'd love some in my soon-to-be habitat garden.
