Tragopogon dubius
Wild specimen are commonly found here in the Loess Hills, though it's not native. Plants are generally between two the 3 1/2 feet tall. Slender leaves. Yellow flowers which turn into what can only be described as massive dandelion like seed heads.
Found most often in prairie landscapes and around the edges of wooded areas.
Root taste like oysters, and other species in the genus are gown for this trait. Also, the plant produces a sap like substance when broken or damages (like dandelions) and it's reported that Indian tribes would chew on this sap like gum.
