Western Fox Snake

Mintonius vulpinus

Habitat:

Canal/deciduous habitat

Notes:

This little juvenile fox snake was not happy I was there at all. Repeated strikes at the lens along with vibrating tail. I couldn't even get any side shots and it was not about to give up.

I was going to remark on the patterns which look very similar to some pythons I've seen. Being a constrictor goes a long way in explaining that.

Yeah Neil, he made me nervous a couple of times, but they are harmless. They do mimic rattlesnakes by vibrating their tales, which is a really cool behavior, but they are constrictors. Thanks for taking interest in my photos!

Like a rattle snake? You're game. Just to see that strike posture would be enough to send me packing, photos or no photos. So glad you got these, because this one is a real beauty.
