Golden Abdomen Ants

Formicidae

Description:

to my memory 6 or 7mm. Black ant with reddish legs and golden abdomen. Calm, slow-moving ants in a column

Habitat:

Unsure if they were nested in the ground or the Angophora

Notes:

more research. Most ants with golden abdomen I see are quick ants that are slightly slimmer and longer than these. They ones I see are spread quite sparsely throughout the leaf litter and get frantic if they sense anything nearby. These ants were in a column and were slow and cautious. They moved off slowly when they sensed my shadow (slow for an ant) They were not in considerable numbers. The images show the column and there are just a few compared to some species. Photo three may be enough to assist with identification
