Giant Swallowtail chrysalis

Description:

This is the chrysalis or pupa of a Swallowtail butterfly. It appears to be a small branch but this one doesn't blend in very well with the young branch it attached itself to. Swallowtails use a silk girdle to hold themselves to the branch in addition to the attachment of the rear.
