Polyphemus Moth

Antheraea polyphemus

Description:

Large moth with tan wings and large eyes on the hindwings. Males have large fluffy antennas. They can blend in very well against the right surface.

Habitat:

Found flopping around under a tree.

Notes:

I tried my best to keep this scarred guy away from the birds as long as possible. He would not stop flopping around on the ground and kept getting pushed around by the wind. After almost an hour, he finally flew up high into a tree, and I could help him no longer.
