Rainbow Bee-eaters

Merops ornatus

Notes:

I have been looking for Rainbow Bee-eaters since I moved to the Sunshine Coast, and finally today was my lucky day! They are smaller than I expected, and look like tiny kingfishers at first glance. They have two long streaming tail-feathers and are extremely agile, pulling insects from the air. Unfortunately the only one that let me get really close had the light behind him (shot 4), but it was a lovely experience anyway.
