Red Bugs

Dysdercus obliquus

Description:

A pair of neat bugs that I've not encountered before. About 1.5 cm long. These are seed feeding "Red Bugs" of the Family Pyrrhocoridae with a Mexico - Central American distribution.

Habitat:

Came to an ultraviolet light set up along the highway on a cliff between San Cristobal and Tuxtla Gutierrez, km 18.5, 1164 meters elevation.

Thank you Torsten, I was hoping you knew. I found the species, I should have taken a lateral shot to get the red underside.

Most likely a species of the genus Dysdercus (Pyrrhocoridae).
