Sage Thrasher

Oreoscoptes montanus

Description:

Related to the Mockingbird, this bird is smaller with greyish-brown back and whitish front with dark streaks down the front. Yellowish-brown cheeks. Short bill, long tail and light yellowish-brown eyes.

Habitat:

Scrub and Sagebrush

Notes:

Accidental bird for coastal California. This was spotted in Coyote Hills known for attracting migrants, transient and vagrantbirds. This was spotted today being chased by a Mockingbird. For birders today this was not a shy bird in the open eating insects but shy when it was trying to feed on berries.
