Размер 27–35 мм. Крылья белые, с чёрными жилками. У самок покров белых чешуек более или менее разрежен, отчего крылья полупрозрачные и кажутся более тёмными.
Евразийский полизональный вид. Боярышница — известный мигрант, бабочки способны перелетать на сотни километров. В некоторые годы бывает очень многочисленна. Однако таких крупных подъёмов численности, как в Сибири, на Урале не наблюдается. Бабочки встречаются со второй декады июня до середины или конца июля. Самки кладут яйца по 20–200 штук на листочки кормовых растений — боярышника, рябины, других деревьев и кустарников из семейства розоцветных.

Size 27–35 mm. The wings are white with black veins. In females, the cover of white scales is more or less sparse, making the wings translucent and appear darker.
Eurasian polyzonal view. Hawthorn is a famous migrant, butterflies are able to fly hundreds of kilometers. In some years it is very numerous. However, such large increases in numbers, as in Siberia, are not observed in the Urals. Butterflies are found from the second decade of June until the middle or end of July. Females lay eggs of 20-200 pieces on leaves of fodder plants - hawthorn, mountain ash, other trees and shrubs from the Rosaceae family.
