Hammerhead flatworm

Bipalium kewense

Notes:

Looks like an earth worm and has an odd looking head. Reminded me of a hammerhead shark.

Mark I had no idea how crazy some of these creatures are! And I've seen these worms before. Now I'll remember to monitor them and see if they are hunting a specific insect to catch a picture.

A serious predator of earthworms and a-sexual fragmentation is the primary means of reproduction, so you can chop them up and more will grow. A scary invader.

Hema I first thought they were mating until I read the link Mark posted about the hammerhead. I saw it following the other and thought they were migrating or something like that. Had no idea it was hunting the earthworm. Crazy!

I would move one of the action shots into first place. :)

Ahhh fabulous action. Great job. These things use chemical warfare too. I wouldn't want to be a tiny creature with those around.

Added some new pics of the attack.

Wow!! Please get shots of them entwined. That will be an attack for food.

What a awesome little creature! It was following another worm. Possibly the pointed head one and they are now intertwined.

Hi Benjammin. This is a 'land planrian' or terrestrial flatworm.
Possibly an introduced one from Asia. Preys on other creatures like snails, slugs, arthropods, spiders. Quite an impressive hunter.
