California Raccoon

Procyon lotor psora

Description:

From the Procyonidae family, Raccoons are pretty common scavengers and foragers. For small mammals Raccoons can get pretty big. Brown gray body, black mask over the face. Their dexterous front paws are good at getting into things and also sensitive

Habitat:

Urban Raccoons tend to hide in sewers and under homes.Rarely come out in the day time. Rural Raccoons find hollows of trees.

Notes:

In Urban areas they know just know where they can find easy or not so easy food. This one is a female mom, looking for food for her family. Most of the time these trash cans are open but when they are closed it difficult to get inside. This one found a home under a dock

Thanks. I had a family near where I live that tried to stuff themselves down a drain. Two adults and about 8 kits. I couldn't get a good shot either. But when I saw her and in the daylight I just couldn't pass this up.

These are one of the best racoon pictures that I have seen so far. Racoons visit us at nite and it is really tough to get a pic!
