Cheiracanthium gracile
A strange spider which has very long front legs, large chelicerae, four eyes?, translucent thorax and abdomen, some simple dark pattern inside thorax? Approximately 35mm long overall.
This one was exploring a vehicle in a used car yard.
Usually hunts at night and hides during the day. Variable - young ones are often nearly white. On the adult male there is an enormously long cymbial spur on the pedipalp (an organ used for sex) an identifying feature. Found all along the south-east coast of Australia including Tasmania. http://bie.ala.org.au/species/urn:lsid:b... Thanks RachaelB for ID
Wow spot on Rachael. Like me with a hammer you bent the first nail but the second was perfect. :-) Thanks so much.. I wasn't looking forward to tackling this one.. such a weirdo and in an unnatural location doesn't help.
Looks very similar to the pic from the Find a spider guide although it's front legs seem to be on steroids!
