Leaf beetle with red spot

Paropsisterna variicollis

Description:

A common leaf beetle with an unusual non symmetrical mark on its elytra. Can anyone suggest why this might occur? Is it a scar?

There has not been much sun yet. Although scars are not uncommon in chrysomelid beetles from eclosion errors or predator injuries, this patterning is odd since there is no scar
