Ambystoma opacum (male)
Approximately six inches long. Dark grey body with light "bone" shaped markings. His testes are evident behind the rear legs.
Found in a rocky area full of leaf litter at the bottom of a cliff face. Downhill there was a marsh and a stream.
I was surprised to find this one visible on a rainy day. I turned him over to determine gender and saw that he had a small gash on his underside and a possible broken right rear leg. He had likely just escaped being a birds dinner. When I left, I made sure that he was underneath the leaves. In the 1990's I had a tiger salamander as a pet for several years.
