Eyed Click Beetle

Alaus oculatus

Description:

This little fellow flew onto my head in Westchester, NY. He/she was about 3 or 4 inches long, with a black body covered in white speckles. Two eye-like spots (similar to a some moths') were just below his head. When flying, the buzz of its wings was pretty loud, and its feet had a strong grip.

Habitat:

Westchester, NY. Grassy/lightly wooded areas.
