Amboina Box Turtle

Cuora amboinensis

Mainly dark olive-brown domed carapace, cream-whitish below. Long darkly colored neck and head of the same color, one whitish stripe on head.

Semi aquatic, often seen on edges of swamps, ponds and waterways.

Purchased in front of one of the pagodas of Mrauk-U complex (at that time I was convinced it was to become a dinner...) and released in a larger pond (Photo No 1). The species in vulnerable, on the red list of IUCN.

Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!
