Southern Flying Squirrel

Glaucomys volans

Description:

Small brownish-gray mammal with white belly, large round eyes, and flaps of skin between the forelimbs and hindlimbs used for gliding.

Habitat:

Mature hardwood oak-hickory forest. They were coming to eat bird seed from the feeders at a mountain home.

Always wanted to see one but they're mostly nocturnal and are found in the deeper part of woods. Nice shot Lisa!
